Agata Kawa is a French illustrator, author and graphic designer, mostly known for the delicate world she creates in her books (children books, novels, fairytales...). This is her very particular identity that is only her, that led prestigious clients to contact her. For example, when Chanel wants to have a romantic and elegant touch for their upscale products, they appreciate to call upon Agata. A broad variety of clients were already seduced by Agata’s work, from TBWA to Upperdeck, from Ubisoft to Djeco, Wagram Music, etc…). Aside from that, she regularly keeps working on her own paintings and exhibitions.
Agata grew up astride three very different cultures. Her childhood was split between Morocco, the south of France and Poland. These territories gave her liking and love for respectfully protected environment, for diversity and exchanges.
In her work, she likes to combine the shape and the meaning. With a refined elegance, she tries to represent something else than direct and visible reality. Her romantic and poetic world is teeming with mysterious symbols that make us dream. She draws a part of her inspiration from the Old Fairytales Books that illustrate an age where mankind lived in harmony with Nature.
“I grew up with these beautiful Old Classical Books, with this impression of magic. I try to infuse this legacy to my drawings; but in a playful, more actual and contemporary way. It seems that this mark of romanticism will never leave me ! :) I think this bridge between two periods is fundamental. Both on the form and content, lots of artistic and graphic XIX century movements appear to me to be very avant-gardist, even nowadays. This spirit guides me on a daily basis ! “
In her life, Agata Kawa has been a graphic designer, an Art Director in animated films, and a teacher in drawing, painting and sculpting workshops. Today she’s a freelancer, living in Paris with her honey, the artist Jean-Sébastien Rossbach. Inside her work as in her life, she continues to build bridges toward frontiers.
